Post-graduate professional education is aimed at increasing the educational level and raising the scientific and pedagogical qualifications of persons with higher professional education.

Post-graduate professional education is provided in doctoral studies, medical internship and residency medical training of higher education institutions and scientific organizations by educational programs of a researcher and residency medical practitioner.

The qualification degree of a researcher provided under postgraduate professional education is established in the Republic of Armenia, with a duration of at least 3 years.

Postgraduate professional education is provided through on-site education, off-site education, distance learning and external studies, the procedure for which is defined by the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

Persons having completed their studies under postgraduate professional education programs and having passed the final attestation are granted with a graduation document of a relevant higher education institution or that of the organization, providing postgraduate professional education, with a relevant supplement of diploma (diploma of a researcher; or diploma of a residency medical practitioner).
