For the first time in the history of independent Armenia, Armenia will host the European Weightlifting Adults Championship.
The European Sports Federation, in an official letter sent to the Armenian Weightlifting Federation, confirmed that the 2023 Championship will be held in Yerevan.
The dates are still being clarified, but the Championship is to be held from April 1 to April 30.
RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan emphasizes that we must do everything possible to hold the European Championship at the highest level: “This is a really good opportunity to demonstrate one of our strongest sports again, to tell Europe that we have good weightlifting. And this, in general, will enhance the promotion. We must spare no effort to hold the European Championship at a very high level.”
The Championship scheduled in Armenia will be a ranking tournament for the Summer Olympics 2024in Paris.
Note that ESCS Minister Vahram Dumanyan had received the President of the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) Antonio Conflitti and Secretary-General Milan Mihajlovic at the end of March.
EWF representatives visited the K. Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, where the European Championship will be held next spring. Antonio Conflitti and Milan Mihajlovic, accompanied by Deputy Minister Karen Giloyan and Director of the Complex Karen Ghazaryan, got acquainted with the infrastructures and conditions of the sports and concert complex, discussed issues related to the organizational activities of the championship.
