The Armenian freestyle wrestling team is currently holding a training camp in Olympavan, preparing for the World Cup to be held on December 12-18 in Belgrade, Serbia.

According to the decision of the coaching staff of the team, Armenia will represent 8 wrestlers in the World Cup; our team will not have representatives in 92 kg and 97 kg weight categories:

Arsen Harutyunyan (57 kg),
Razmik Papikyan (61 kg),
Vazgen Tevanyan (65 kg),
Arman Andreasyan (70 kg),
Hrayr Alikhanyan (74 kg),
Arman Avagyan (79 kg),
Hovhannes Mkhitaryan (86 kg),
Hovhannes Maghaqyan (125 kg).

According to the head coach of the Armenian freestyle wrestling team Habetnak Kurghinyan, the participants were selected taking into account the results of the recent Armenian Championship. H. Kurghinyan assures that the mood of the wrestlers is combative, the sport condition is satisfactory. “Given the fact that we have not participated in tournaments for a long time, I assess the boys’ condition as normal, and everyone's attitude is combative. We have quite a strong team, our young athletes are already ready for such major tournaments. We will not have representatives only in 92 kg and 97 kg weight categories, as we do not have ready wrestlers at the moment.”

According to the head coach of the team, before the upcoming Olympic Ranking Tournaments, the World Cup is a good opportunity to assess the strength of the wrestlers and draw appropriate conclusions։ “The last tournament of our team was the European Championship, held in February in Rome. We are going to participate in ranking tournaments, for the preparatory stage of which the World Cup is a starting tournament This is a very good opportunity to evaluate the strength.”

Habetnak Kurghinyan also noted that they had already made the calendar for the following year: from January, the wrestlers will have a busy training and competition schedule, preparing for the main event of Tokyo Olympic Games 2021.
