The opening of the exhibition “Dildilians: a Photographic Heritage from the Diaspora,” dedicated to the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, was held at the History Museum of Armenia.
The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Museum and Armen Marsoobian, heir to the Dildilian family and a professor in the Philosophy Department at Southern Connecticut State University. The exhibition aims to showcase the valuable heritage preserved outside of Armenia.
For several generations, the Dildilian family have been engaged in photography in various cities of the Ottoman Empire, including Sepastia, Erzincan, Samsun, and elsewhere, since the 19th century. Following the deportation, they resettled in Greece and the USA, where they carried on their activities.
The exhibition is based on the Dildilian family archive, featuring glass negatives, drawings, documents, letters, as well as dozens of photographs taken by Zolak and Aram Dildilian over a period of about 34 years, and other notable items of family heritage.
