Within the framework of the interstate program “Cultural Capitals” of the CIS countries, the city of Meghri was declared the Cultural Capital of the CIS in 2026. On this occasion, various cultural events will be held in Meghri and Agarak on April 16-17.
The official opening ceremony of the program will take place on April 16 at 19։00, with a gala concert featuring the Armenian State Jazz Orchestra. The event aims to present the city's cultural heritage, creative potential, and strengthen cultural cooperation between the CIS countries.
A series of events are planned for April 16 within the framework of the “Meghri - CIS Cultural Capital” program:
- Tree planting and park establishment (10:30)
- Press conference for the opening of the “Meghri - CIS Cultural Capital” program (12:30)
- ARTEXPO exhibition (at 16:30)
- Meghri: CIS Cultural Capital Stamp Cancellation (at 18:00)
- Official opening ceremony, gala concert (at 19:00)
Representatives of Armenian state bodies, official delegations of CIS member states (Russia, Belarus, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan) and cultural figures, representatives of the Executive Committee of the CIS countries and the leadership of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS countries will participate in the opening event.
