During the working meeting with the rectors of RA universities, ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan discussed issues related to the participation and activities of higher education institutions in the upcoming Summit of the European Political Community and the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) to be held in Armenia.
The meeting was also attended by Sargis Hayotsyan, Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee.
Minister Zhanna Andreyasyan, in particular, addressed the programs for the participation of higher education institutions in the aforementioned events as host country, emphasizing the extensive involvement of students and volunteers and inter-university cooperation in various formats: “We expect the active participation of students and the promotion of volunteerism. It is essential that students feel engaged in and integral to the organization of such major events. Particular importance is placed on ensuring the visibility of the education system’s contribution, especially in the context of COP17,” Zhanna Andreasyan said, emphasizing that the proposals of universities will also be taken into consideration in the upcoming activities. The Minister also touched upon the 10th International Francophonie Games to be held in Armenia in 2027, highlighting the need to raise awareness and encourage high participation among students.
The meeting also addressed the issue of clarifying certain provisions in the RA Law “On Higher Education and Science”. As stated by the Minister, it is planned to clarify the admission procedure and the process of selecting rectors, urging to submit proposals at the draft amendment stage. The meeting also discussed several other issues related to the integrity of data in the higher education information system, admission to universities, and cooperation between universities and scientific institutions.
