On November 24, in Paris, at UNESCO Headquarters, within the framework of the 25th session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, Armenia was elected a member of the World Heritage Committee for the first time.
In the round for open, non-allocated seats in the elections, Armenia achieved the best results, receiving 105 votes from a total of 161, which demonstrates the strong confidence of the international community towards Armenia in the field of cultural heritage protection.
By assuming membership of the World Heritage Committee, the Republic of Armenia reiterates its commitment to enhance the efforts towards protection, preservation and restoration of cultural and natural heritage, as well as to promote international efforts aimed at strengthening of fundamental principles of the World Heritage Convention.
