Today, the Republic of Armenia celebrates Librarian’s Day. To mark the occasion, RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan awarded 45 representatives of the sector with the MoESCS medals, diplomas and letters of appreciation for their significant contribution to the library sector and their long-term service. ESCS Deputy Minister Alfred Kocharyan also attended the event.

Minister Zhanna Andreasyan congratulated everyone in attendance on Librarian's Day and expressed gratitude for their long-term, conscientious work: “It is thanks to your work that libraries continue to play a significant role in our lives, shaping an environment for educational, cultural, and international communication. Perhaps the best evidence of the appreciation of your work is the readership, who should not be missing from our libraries. You bear the important responsibility of making the library a place that children will want to visit again.

She emphasized that, in the context of technological advancements, it is essential to understand what transformations the library must undergo to remain relevant, actively engage in dialogue, and serve as a platform for broad opportunities. The Minister highlighted the need for continuous training programs for librarians, also in terms of localizing international experience.

“The amendment to the law “On Libraries and Library work”, adopted last year, provides legislative opportunities for library reforms. In this regard, I believe that libraries should play an essential role in becoming hubs for discussion, communication, and entertainment,” said Zhanna Andreasyan, reaffirming the Ministry's commitment to library development and creating favourable conditions for their activities.

Note that out of 641 libraries operating in the Republic of Armenia, 12 are under the jurisdiction of the ESCS Ministry. Considering the requirements of readers, as well as updated publications in the literary and scientific sectors, the library's collection is continuously replenished with the support of the Ministry. Libraries serve over 110,000 readers annually, and the attendance exceeds 1 million.

As part of the day, various events will be organized in the libraries operating under the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
