Today marks the 100th birth anniversary of the master of Armenian cinema, director, theatre director and screenwriter Henrik Malyan.

To mark the day, jubilee events were held at the H. Malyan Film Actor Theatre, which were attended by ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan, Deputy Minister Daniel Danielyan, Director of the Armenian Cinema Foundation David Banuchyan, Artistic Director of Henrik Malyan Film Actor Theatre and Henrik Malyan's daughter Narine Malyan, and representatives of the Central Bank.

Greeting those in attendance, Minister Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized that with his exceptional talent, Henrik Malyan's art is able to touch anyone, regardless of time and space. She highlighted the need to honour outstanding artists not only within the framework of the jubilee year, but consistently throughout the years: “It is important to remember our renowned figures not only on anniversaries: they should accompany us constantly, remaining an important part of public consciousness, emotions, and discussions. That would be the greatest appreciation for their achievements and memory. We need to popularize our film legacy, starting with school education,” said Zhanna Andreasyan, reiterating the state's commitment to ensuring the continuity and popularization of the artist's legacy.

Director of the Armenian Cinema Foundation David Banuchyan also delivered a welcoming speech, stating that Malyan's films are planned to be restored and digitized with the support of the ESCS Ministry.

Narine Malyan expressed gratitude for honouring the memory of the great artist and appreciating his achievements: “Malyan was the ambassador of Armenian art and the Armenian people. He wished to see the Armenian as ideal and accepted every flaw with pain. I think he managed to create that ideal image in his art.”

As part of the jubilee evening, an official ceremony was held to present the “100th Anniversary of the Birth of Henrik Malyan” silver commemorative coin issued by the Central Bank of Armenia. It was presented by Central Bank Board Member David Nahapetyan.

Additionally, a documentary about Malyan and a theatrical performance featuring actors from the Malyan Theatre were shown.

It should be noted that as part of the anniversary events, a new postage stamp dedicated to “Great Armenians: the 100th anniversary of Henrik Malyan’s birth” was issued, and a flower-laying ceremony was held at Henrik Malyan’s grave.
