RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan visited today the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex and Museum-Institute, where the second phase of major renovation work is currently underway. It includes the renovation of the inclined slabs of the Temple of Eternity and the roof of the administrative building.

MoESCS Secretary General Hasmik Hakobyan accompanied the Minister.

Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Edita Gzoyan, head of the architectural group monitoring the memorial complex renovation, Honored Architect of the Republic of Armenia and co-author of the Armenian Genocide Memorial and Museum-Institute project Sashur Kalashyan, along with representatives of the contractor organization carrying out the construction, presented the progress of the work.

It was noted that during the renovation of the Armenian Genocide Memorial, both the museum and the memorial will remain open to visitors and official delegations. The pillars are being renovated one by one in order not to hinder the flow of visitors on April 24, the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day: currently, restoration work is underway on the first three pillars.

ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan underlined the significance of high-quality and timely completion of the work, highlighting the symbolic importance of the memorial for Armenia and the Armenian people. She urged that every effort be made to meet the deadlines and ensure the complete restoration of the complex to the highest standard. It was reported to the Minister that the work will resolve the drainage problem that has persisted for decades. Due to this the pillar stones had been crumbling, there was a risk of rockfall, and rainwater had been seeping into the administrative and museum buildings for years. At the same time, it was noted that the ongoing work will not alter the appearance of the memorial in any way.

To provide efficient solutions to professional issues, the ESCS Minister proposed involving leading professional organizations as needed, and considering their opinions and recommendations. Zhanna Andreasyan was also shown samples of flagstones and cornerstones, which will be installed on the backs of the pillars once the waterproofing work is completed.

The two-phase major reconstruction of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute began in late 2024. During the first stage, work was carried out to improve the irrigation system of the green spaces adjacent to the Armenian Genocide Memorial, as part of which a drip irrigation system was launched in the spruce grove.
