The official opening ceremony of the restored house-museum of the great poet, the traditional “Teryan Day” and cultural events dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Vahan Teryan took place in Gandza, the birthplace of Vahan Teryan.
RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Culture of Georgia Tinatin Rukhadze, representatives of the state, public and cultural spheres, benefactors, and enthusiasts of Teryan's poetry attended the event.
Welcoming the participants, ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan, in particular, noted: “Culture unites people, and this is visible today. Teryan's poetry is a universal value: he speaks about everything that is important to each of us. The reopened museum will provide new opportunities to study Teryan's art and interact with his eternal presence. All Teryan art lovers will rediscover the environment in which Teryan lived and created.”
The Minister also underlined that the ESCS Ministry has allocated grants to modernize the exhibition, and thanks to new technologies, an engaging interactive environment has been created in the museum, allowing visitors to view some episodes from the poet’s life
Zhanna Andreasyan also highlighted the significance of the event in the context of strengthening cultural cooperation between Armenia and Georgia, noting that collaborative events foster dialogue.
“This stands as a remarkable testament to the successful cultural cooperation between our countries. I am confident that, together, we will advance, deepening the centuries-old bonds of friendship and brotherhood between our peoples through fresh initiatives and collaborative programs,” the Minister said.
She thanked the authors and organizers of the initiative, expressing confidence that the environment created in the museum will not leave indifferent both the citizens of Armenia and Georgia, as well as tourists who will have plenty of reasons to visit Gandza.
Minister of Culture of Georgia Tinatin Rukhadze also welcomed those in attendance and highlighted the cooperation established between the two countries, noting that culture has no disagreements or peculiarities: “Culture comes from everyone's heart and can inspire everyone, regardless of ethnicity or language.”
As highlighted by the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia, Ashot Smbatyan, it is customary to say that culture knows no borders, especially given the centuries-old friendship between the Armenian and Georgian peoples.
“Today, we celebrated the 140th anniversary of Vahan Teryan in his native village with remarkable grandeur and an impressive turnout. I think the Teryan spirit was once again spread throughout Gandza today. We ought to pass on the rich, creative legacy he left behind from generation to generation, and this is one of the ways to achieve that,” the Ambassador noted.
V. Teryan House-Museum was restored by the “Support to Javakhk” Foundation with the assistance of benefactors. As stated by the director of the Foundation, Samvel Mkoyan, one of their missions is the development of public sectors in Javakhk and the strengthening of Armenian-Georgian relations.
Within the framework of the event, the guests also laid flowers at the bust of Vahan Teryan, then toured the restored house-museum. Teryan's day continued with a concert celebration.
