A regular session of the interdepartmental commission coordinating the organization and holding of major international sports tournaments scheduled for 2025 in Armenia was held today, chaired by the RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan.
Issues related to the holding of the U20 EuroBasket Division B and the U16 Volleyball European Championships for Boys to be held in Yerevan were addressed.
ESCS Deputy Minister Hasmik Avagyan, MoESCS Secretary General Hasmik Hakobyan, representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Internal Affairs, the Basketball and Volleyball Federations of Armenia, the Civil Aviation Committee, broadcasting companies, as well as the leadership of sports organizations attended the session.
Welcoming the commission members, ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan first expressed gratitude for the coordinated work and efforts of various structures, thanks to which the Ice Hockey World Championship Division IV and the 60th European Karate Senior Championships have already been successfully held this year.
The ESCS Minister emphasized that, given Armenia's previous experience in hosting such major tournaments, interdepartmental efforts and collaborative work should be implemented to organize the U20 EuroBasket Division B and the U16 Volleyball European Championships at a high standard. Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the significance of this from the perspectives of both advancing Armenia's standing on the international sports map and popularization and dissemination of sports games.
The Secretary General of the Basketball Federation of Armenia, Arthur Nazaryan, informed that the U20 EuroBasket Division B Championship to be held in Yerevan on July 11-20 is expected to host around 400 participants from 21 countries. The matches of the championship will be held at K. Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex and the “Mika” Sports Complex operating under the Sports Management Centre. The teams will hold their training sessions at the Gazprom Armenia Educational-Sport Complex.
The Armenian national team's matches will be broadcast live on 1TV (Channel One).
The U16 Volleyball European Championship will be held from July 23 to August 3, with the participation of Armenia and 15 other countries. Yerevan will host delegates from France, Poland, Italy, Hungary, Latvia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Bulgaria, Spain, Ukraine, Austria, Greece, Serbia, Slovenia and Romania. As stated by Karen Asmaryan, Secretary General of the Armenian Volleyball Federation, around 500 athletes are expected to participate. A total of 60 matches will be held as part of the championship at the Gazprom Armenia Educational-Sport Complex and the Sports Complex of the Russian-Armenian University.
The session, in particular, covered issues related to ensuring the security of tournaments, emergency services, as well as property replenishment.
Several other organizational issues were also addressed.
