The “School Basketball League” sports games wrapped up with thrilling and spectacular matches at the “Mika” sports complex of the Sports Management Centre.

The tournament was held in two age categories: 10-12 years old (5th-6th grades) and 13-15 years old (7th-9th grades) among school teams in 4 stages: community, regional, inter-regional and final. Over 8 thousand schoolchildren from about 560 schools across the country participated in the community round competitions.

RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan presented awards to the winning teams in the 7th – 9th grade competition. In this age category, the third place was taken by the team of Yerevan Basic School № 137, the second place was taken by the team of Yerevan Basic School № 2 named after Kh. Abovyan, and the title of the winner of the tournament was awarded to the team of Yerevan Basic School № 51.

Welcoming the participants, Nikol Pashinyan congratulated them on the occasion of the tournament and highlighted the significance of ensuring its continuity. He expressed confidence that the participants will carry the enthusiasm, energy, unity, and teamwork inspired by the games into their homes and workplaces.

This reflects the true purpose of the tournament: first, to provide schoolchildren with the opportunity for self-expression; and second, to strengthen team spirit and recognize that the teams who succeed are those who put in the most effort, have the strongest belief in their victory, demonstrate determination and teamwork on sports arenas,” the Prime Minister said and thanked the organizers, participants, and fans of the tournament wishing the school basketball league a successful path forward.

ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan awarded the winning teams of the 5th - 6th grades. Yeghvard Basic School № 3 secured the third place, Artik Basic School № 1 took second, and Yerevan Basic School №174 was awarded the winner’s title.

Zhanna Andreasyan thanked the schoolchildren for their unwavering dedication and unyielding struggle.

As stated by the ESCS Minister, each participant did their best to ensure the team's victory.

“We got unforgettable impressions. Sport trains the body, sharpens the mind, and teaches the value of teamwork. Today, all of those qualities were visible, and most significantly, sport united us all. I think the fan teams formed here are capable of cheering with the same enthusiasm and emotional intensity at many major international tournaments.

This is the first time the tournament has been held, and I am sure that we will have more participants in the coming years. There is a significant potential for sports among schoolchildren. Such competitions change the attitude towards sports and the subject of “Physical Education” as a whole,” Zhanna Andreasyan stated and touched upon the holding of “RA Prime Minister's Cup” tournaments among schoolchildren across various sports.

Khoren Zargaryan, Director of the Sports Management Centre, and Arthur Nazaryan, Secretary General of the Basketball Federation of Armenia, were awarded souvenirs and certificates of appreciation for their contribution to the proper organization of the tournament. They were awarded by ESCS Deputy Minister Hasmik Avagyan.
