RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Parliament of Georgia Giorgi Gabunia. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Armenia, Giorgi Sharvashidze, also attended the meeting.
Welcoming the members of the delegation, the Minister highlighted the historically formed friendly cooperation between Armenia and Georgia. Zhanna Andreasyan underlined that to further advance bilateral relations, it is necessary to expand joint programs, particularly in the fields of education and culture.
The Minister emphasized the significance of cultural events held in both countries, highlighting the Georgian Culture Days organized in Armenia on June 5-7. She claimed that the events were distinguished by a high organizational level, a diverse and engaging program, and provided the Armenian public with an opportunity to get to know the rich cultural legacy of the neighbouring country in a fresh way.
Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Georgian Parliament Giorgi Gabunia expressed gratitude for the warm reception, as well as for supporting the proper organization of the Georgian Culture Days. Pointing out the potential for cultural cooperation between the two countries, Gabunia highlighted the importance of regular exchanges of cultural delegations between creative groups, artists, musicians, filmmakers and architects.
Gabunia also made a reference to the reconstruction of Petros Adamyan Tbilisi State Armenian Drama Theatre, stating that the Georgian Government will continue to invest in the preservation and development of joint cultural heritage.
Zhanna Andreasyan expressed her gratitude for the efforts made to enhance the infrastructural conditions of the Armenian theatre, stressing that the ESCS Ministry also continues to provide assistance to the theatre in organizing performances and implementing other initiatives. The Minister expressed confidence that the corresponding cultural environment being created in the new theatre building will contribute to the revitalization, further development, and popularization of theatrical life.
The Minister also referred to the “Festivar” music and tourism festival held in Ijevan last year, featuring Armenian and Georgian performers, which also attracted great interest in Georgia.
The parties also underlined the significance of engaging young people in collaborative initiatives.
During the meeting, the parties also touched upon other issues of mutual interest. In particular, the discussion focused on implementing academic mobility programs for students and lecturers to strengthen educational and scientific ties between the two countries.
