RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay to the Republic of Armenia Silvana Lesca Barolin.
ESCS Deputy Minister Arthur Martirosyan also attended the meeting.
Welcoming the Ambassador and congratulating her on the start of an important mission, Zhanna Andreasyan expressed confidence that during the Ambassador's tenure, relations and cooperation between Armenia and Uruguay will further develop and expand.
The Minister emphasized the enhancement and expansion of the existing friendly and multifaceted relations between the two countries, the encouragement of initiatives aimed at exchanging best practices, expressing willingness to intensify cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, sport, and youth. The ESCS Minister specifically suggested considering the possibilities of expanding cooperation between educational institutions, facilitating student and teacher exchange and mobility programs, as well as instruction of the Armenian language and Armenian studies at the University of Uruguay, and implementing joint educational initiatives in Armenology.
Zhanna Andreasyan welcomed the process of teaching Armenian as a foreign language in Uruguay, which is being executed as part of the Uruguayan Government's strategy to enhance foreign language learning. The ESCS Minister expressed gratitude for the efforts aimed at preserving, disseminating and developing the Armenian language and culture in Uruguay and expressed her willingness to facilitate the further expansion and enhancement of the program. Zhanna Andreasyan also informed that the ESCS Ministry has initiated the “Armenian for Non-Armenian Speakers: Teaching, Testing and Assessing the Armenian Language” program.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uruguay to Armenia Silvana Lesca Barolin expressed her gratitude for the reception and highlighted the significance of strengthening cooperation with Armenia.
Emphasizing the significance of cooperation between higher education institutions in Uruguay and Armenia, the parties discussed, in particular, the implementation of academic mobility programs for students, professors, and scientists, joint research initiatives, and the joint development of educational programs. A reference was also made to the potential cooperation in the teaching and dissemination of the Spanish language.
