RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received President of the World and European Karate Federation Antonio Espinos, as part of the European Karate Senior Championship held in Yerevan from May 7 to 11.

ESCS Deputy Minister Hasmik Avagyan, President of the Armenian Karate Federation Vazgen Harutyunyan and Secretary General of the European Karate Federation Davor Cipek attended the meeting.

ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan welcomed the attendees and thanked the President of the World and European Karate Federation, highlighting the efficient collaboration with the structure.

“The RA Government prioritizes the advancement and massification of sports, particularly among children and the youth. One of the primary targets of the sports strategy is holding international tournaments in Armenia, and in this regard, hosting the European Karate Senior Championship in Armenia is a significant experience for us. This sport has a wide popularity among school children, so holding the championship will contribute to both the further spread and development of karate, as well as the preparatory work for the European Junior and U21 Karate Championship to be held in Armenia in 2027,” stated Minister Zhanna Andreasyan.

President of the World and European Karate Federation Antonio Espinos highly appreciated Armenia's initiative in hosting the European Senior Karate Championship and expressed confidence that it will be an eventful one for the Armenian sports community.

“Karate is an institutional sport, and I hope this tournament will enhance interest in karate in Armenia,” said Antonio Espinos, thanking the Armenian side for cooperation.

During the meeting, the parties addressed several issues related to the organizational and current issues of the championship.
