Today, RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan chaired the first session of the jubilee commission commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Armenian author Avetik Isahakyan. The Commission was formed pursuant to RA Prime Minister's decision No. 137-A dated February 18, 2025.
Deputy Minister Alfred Kocharyan, Secretary General Hasmik Hakobyan, as well as Avetik Isahakyan's grandson, literary critic, Doctor of Philology, Professor Avetik Isahakyan, who is also a member of the commission, attended the meeting.
The proposals for commemorative events to be held in honor of Avetik Isahakyan's 150th anniversary were addressed during the commission meeting which were due by January 30, 2025. Out of 44 proposals submitted to the ESCS Ministry, the commission must select the events that will be included in the anniversary program.
Welcoming the attendees, Minister Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the significance of the role and activities of the commission in terms of appropriate execution of celebrations honoring the great writer's jubilee year.
"I believe we need to be meticulous when selecting the programs so they are worthy of the Master's merit. We must determine the most appropriate approaches and methods to properly promote and disseminate the legacy of Avetik Isahakyan," noted the Minister.
In terms of reviewing the submitted programs, Zhanna Andreasyan recommended adhering to a few fundamental guidelines, considering the past years' experience.
The Minister specifically emphasized the significance of the scientific and educational component when selecting events, the decentralization of events, the promotion of school involvement and initiative, ensuring the diversity of events, and the expanded recognition of Isahakyan's legacy abroad.
According to the submitted proposals, events are scheduled as part of the anniversary program in the capital, regions, and abroad. The events mainly include scientific conferences, publications, film series creation, exhibitions, theatrical performances, and more.
It was mentioned that Armenia will soon participate in the Leipzig International Book Festival, with the Armenian pavilion featuring Avetik Isahakyan's works in a separate section. The emphasis on the anniversary at the Yerevan International Book Festival was also highlighted.
The commission session also covered topics pertaining to the anniversary's branding and appropriate collaboration with various partners.
