ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan received today Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Armenia Kristina Alison Kvien.
Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee Sargis Hayotsyan also attended the meeting.
ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan welcomed the Ambassador and emphasized the significance of collaboration between Armenia and the United States. According to the Minister, there is successful collaboration and new initiatives in various areas that reflect the quality of partnership and the potential to be realized. During the meeting, a reference was made to the draft law "On Higher Education and Science" and the remarks made, and the importance of internationalization of universities was highlighted. The Minister pointed out that the draft law contains a number of provisions pertaining to the governance of universities and specific criteria for the election of the rector. In this regard, Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the importance of working discussions and coordinated efforts with both the U.S. Embassy in Armenia and the American University in Armenia.
Emphasizing the significance of strengthening ties in the field of science, the Minister expressed willingness to undertake effective and distinct actions to foster collaboration with the U.S. National Science Foundation.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Armenia Kristina Kvien thanked for the reception and emphasized her commitment to fostering closer ties with Armenia.Highlighting the importance of cooperation with the MoESCS in a number of sectors, the Ambassador expressed her willingness to contribute to the implementation of joint initiatives.
Additionally, Zhanna Andreasyan expressed her gratitude for the constant assistance provided in the direction of cultural heritage. One of them is the grant provided to the "Matenadaran" Mesrop Mashtots Scientific Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts as part of the program for the "Restoration and Popularization of Handwritten Manuscripts Written in Nagorno-Karabakh and Exclusive Documents Related to its Ancient History".
During the meeting, the parties also considered additional cultural collaboration prospects, including the organization of a joint exhibition with the Fresno House Museum of renowned 20th-century American writer of Armenian origin William Saroyan and one of the museums of Armenia.
Other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
