Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan presented to the teaching staff and students of the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Kh. Abovyan, Brusov State University and the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports of Armenia the overview of the formation and content of the education cluster of the "Academic City" project.
RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan and Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee Sargis Hayotsyan attended the event.
Nikol Pashinyan first spoke about the connection between the “Academic City” project and Tamanyan's Yerevan at the Pedagogical University, just as he had done in discussions at previous educational institutions. He emphasized that once the small center of Yerevan was designed as an academic city because the main institutional structures were educational institutions. In this context, the Prime Minister spoke about the significance of implementing the ‘Academic City” project, pointing out that the primary objective of the project is to provide all the components required for the educational process, which is currently impossible in the center of Yerevan since it is the focal point of all events in Armenia: economic, political, social, legal.
In the framework of the “Academic City” project, the Prime Minister also spoke about the visibility of the educational process, that is, communication with the international educational environment, the quality of education in Armenia and the importance of being internationally competitive.
Nikol Pashinyan also emphasized that the primary objective of the education system is to ensure that every student is competitive in his chosen field, aligning with the core principle of the “Academic City” project.
Touching upon the clusters of the “Academic City”, Nikol Pashinyan underlined that each cluster should have a high school: “Professional orientation is one of the primary issues facing general education. We make a lot of efforts in high school to guide students in their professional orientation.”
In this regard, Nikol Pashinyan touched upon the teacher training process and noted that the educational cluster of the “Academic City” is also designed for acting teachers who should be able to constantly communicate with educational technologies.
Concluding his remarks, the head of the state also touched upon the art, entertainment and sports centers planned in the Academic City.
Head of the Programs of the Institute of Education of the University College London Norbert Pachler, in turn, presented his experience in the enlargement of universities and the scope of collaboration planned with the “Academic City” project.
