On September 4-5, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Arthur Martirosyan, as part of the Armenian delegation in Geneva, took part in the discussion of the 5th-6th joint periodic reports of the Republic of Armenia on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The RA delegation also included Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Head of the delegation Tatevik Stepanyan, Deputy Minister of Health Armen Gasparyan, Deputy Minister of Justice Levon Balyan, Head of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Karine Sujayan and other members.

The members of the delegation presented the work related to the implementation of children's rights in the scope of their coordination. Arthur Martirosyan, addressing the questions of the commission members, in particular, touched upon substantive reforms of general education in terms of introducing the new standard for general education, human rights, climate change, and the inclusion of gender policy issues. In this regard, the Deputy Minister presented the RA state policy in the field of teacher training and professional development, as well as the progress of school construction programs. He also addressed the process of guiding children left without compulsory education to education, touched upon programs to uphold the right to education of national minorities, as well as children forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.

Speaking about cultural education, the Deputy Minister pointed out that the new standard for general education has defined cultural competence, which aims to promote the independent development of cultural and aesthetic perceptions of students and the acquisition of other culture-related skills. Arthur Martirosyan presented the programs implemented by the ESCS Ministry to ensure cultural education and student engagement in cultural life. He also informed that the 2024-2025 academic year has been declared the Year of Cultural Education in the general schools of the Republic of Armenia.

The committee members highly appreciated the productive discussions with the Armenian delegation and presented several suggestions and remarks to ensure the smooth progress of further comprehensive sectoral reforms.
