RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received today the delegation headed by Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs of Georgia Givi Mikanadze.

ESCS Deputy Ministers Arthur Martirosyan and Araksia Svajyan, NA Deputy Narek Babayan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Armenia Giorgi Sharvashidze, other members of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs attended the meeting.

Welcoming the guests, the ESCS Minister first congratulated the Georgian national football team on their achievement of the previous day - the victory over Greece, which enabled the team to advance to the finals of the European Championship for the first time in history. Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the importance of enhancing opportunities for joint programs in education, science, and youth to foster close friendly relations between the two countries.

“We are pleased to continue this dialogue within the legislative body after having the chance, to discuss the agenda of bilateral cooperation with colleagues from the executive body of Georgia. I believe that mutual visits and discussions demonstrate the strong relationship between the two countries,” emphasized Zhanna Andreasyan highlighting the significance of fully realizing the potential of collaboration.

The meeting touched upon the visit of the delegation, headed by the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia Giorgi Amilakhvari, to Armenia, within the framework of which the Georgian Studies Center was officially opened at Yerevan State University on March 27.

ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan expressed confidence that this will contribute to the strengthening of the partnership. “We are ready to discuss our upcoming plans and actions based on the Georgian Studies Center. This is an excellent new starting point from which we can further expand our collaboration in this direction. Armenian Studies Center operates at Tbilisi State University, which has very good traditions. We believe that our work in this direction can be very promising,” said the ESCS Minister

Thankful for the reception, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament's Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs, Givi Mikanadze highlighted the significance of direct communication between the two friendly peoples. In this regard, Givi Mikanadze stressed the enhancement of close cooperation between both the executive and legislative branches of the government.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed the jointly implemented activities within the framework of professional training, attestation and certification of Armenian language and literature teachers of Armenian-language schools in Georgia, the experience of teaching Georgian in RA public schools and the potential for its expansion, as well as the scholarship program run under the interstate program.

The Georgian side emphasized that it is interested in the successful experience of implementing the “School Feeding” program in general education institutions of Armenia. The neighbouring country plans to localize the program in Georgian schools following an extensive study.

During the meeting with the Parliament of Georgia representatives, bilateral cooperation programs in science, higher education, and youth were discussed, confirming the commitment to enhance relations through practical actions. In particular, the importance of the possibility of implementing joint programs within the “Erasmus+” and “Horizon Europe” programs was emphasized, which will contribute to the development of the internationalization process of universities and scientific institutions of the two states.

The ESCS Minister also highlighted the significance of organizing youth conferences between Armenia and Georgia, which will undoubtedly enhance communication and dialogue among the youth of both countries, strengthen friendly ties, and drive the implementation of new joint initiatives.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
