Under Secretary of State for Europe of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Leo Docherty, who is on an official visit to Armenia, visited the History Museum of Armenia.

RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Alfred Kocharyan, Director of the History Museum of Armenia David Poghosyan, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Armenia John Gallagher accompanied him.

David Poghosyan welcomed the guests and noted that the museum reflects a holistic picture of the culture and history of Armenia from prehistoric times to the present day, connecting the past and the future with samples of about 400 thousand collections.

The Under Secretary of State for Europe of the United Kingdom toured the exhibition halls and got acquainted with archaeological, numismatic, and ethnographic collections. He examined the exhibits reflecting the ancient Armenian culture with great interest and noted that he was impressed by the Armenian culture. Leo Docherty was particularly impressed by the carpets hall, with its magnificent collection of carpets and rugs with unique patterns and ornaments typical of Armenian carpet art.

The Under Secretary of State for Europe of the United Kingdom and the ESCS Deputy Minister Alfred Kocharyan briefly touched upon the prospects of cooperation. Alfred Kocharyan informed that it is planned to organize an exhibition in close cooperation with British museums and the history of Armenia in 2027-2028. The details of the exhibition are still under discussion.

It should be noted that the exhibits of the History Museum of Armenia are displayed at the British Museum now at the exhibition entitled “Luxury and Power: Persia to Greece”. The exhibits include the golden breastplate from Armavir, the clay bull-shaped ritual vessel (VI-V centuries BC), the ritual vessel of the silver horseman found in Erebuni (VI-IV centuries BC) and the clay bear-shaped ritual vessel (I century BC) found in Artashat.
