During the wartime, Armenian schoolchildren won the 14th International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics in 2020, which was held online in Estonia. More than 280 students from 40 countries participated in the Olympiad.
Armenia was represented by four participants։ all of them being awarded with medals. The pupils of Physics and Mathematics Specialized School after A. Shahinyan, Artashes Gyoletsyan (11th grade) was awarded a gold medal; the 12th graders Yeva Hunanyan and Karen Baghdasaryan won silver medals. 11th grader Davit Gyulamiryan from Quantum College also won a silver medal.
Marietta Gyulzadyan, a researcher at the Byurakan Observatory and a teacher of Astronomy at the School of Physics and Mathematics, and Vardges Mambreyan, the head of the Physics and Mathematics Olympics club, worked with the team.
It is worth mentioning that none of the members of the 10 million Azerbaijani and more than 70 million Turkish teams participating in the Olympiad were awarded even a commendation.
