The 2026 European Individual Chess Championship has come to an end in Katowice, Poland, with Grandmasters Robert Hovhannisyan and Hayk Martirosyan securing qualification for the World Cup 2027.
Robert Hovhannisyan and Hayk Martirosyan shared 5th-23rd places with 8 points, taking 9th and 13th places with additional indicators, respectively.
Among the Armenian chess players, international master Arsen Davtyan also delivered a notable performance, scoring 8 points and placing 23rd. During the championship, Arsen Davtyan achieved the first norm of a grandmaster, while Tigran Hambradzumyan secured his second international master norm.
The title of a champion was claimed by Ukrainian International Master Roman Dekhtyarov, who scored an impressive 9 points out of a possible 11.
