Olympic bronze medalist, two-time world champion, and four-time European champion Malkhas Amoyan has advanced to the final of the European Wrestling Championship in Tirana, the capital of Albania.

In the 77 kg weight category, the four-time European champion began his fight in the 1/8 finals, where he defeated Swedish Carl Buff 4:0. In the quarterfinals, Amoyan defeated Irfan Mirzoev of Ukraine 10:0, and in the semifinals, he defeated Alexandrin Gutu of Moldova.

Today, Amoyan will fight with Georgian representative Ramaz Zoidze to claim his 5th European Championship.

Meanwhile, another representative of Armenia, the 55 kg weight category Manvel Khachatryan, will fight for the bronze medal today. He started his fight in the quarterfinals, where he defeated Ukrainian Ivan Stefansky with a score of 7:3. In the semifinals, Khachatryan lost to the reigning world champion of Georgia, Vakhtang Lolui, with a score of 1:3. He will fight for third place today with Bulgarian Stefan Grigoriev.

Another Armenian wrestler, Karen Aslanyan (63 kg), will also compete for bronze. He began with a convincing 9:0 win over Romania’s Razvan Arnaut in the qualification round, but lost in the quarterfinals to Russia’s Sergey Emelin. Aslanyan’s opponent in the medal match will be Polish representative Mairbek Salimov.

Other representatives of Armenia, Gevorg Tadevosyan (87 kg) and Albert Vardanyan (130 kg) have advanced to the repechage rounds and will have the opportunity to compete for bronze if they succeed in their consolation matches.

Also competing at the European Championship today will be Suren Aghajanyan (60 kg), Slavik Galstyan (67 kg), Gaspar Terteryan (72 kg), Samvel Grigoryan (82 kg), and Hayk Khloyan (97 kg).
