ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan received a delegation led by Valerio Lachizzi, Secretary General of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). ESCS Deputy Minister Hasmik Avagyan also attended the meeting.
Minister Zhanna Andreasyan highlighted the significance of the visit, noting that the development of motorsport in Armenia can have not only sporting significance but also important educational and technological implications. As she stated, the sector can be regarded as an effective mechanism for promoting engineering education, particularly within the framework of the Academic City’s technology cluster. During the meeting, the “Affordable Cross Car” project implemented by the FIA, was presented. Within this initiative, specialists from the Automobile Federation of Armenia designed and built a cross car racing vehicle for the first time, carrying out the entire production process in Armenia. The Minister emphasized that the initiative will provide an opportunity to unlock young people’s potential, increase student engagement, and promote the development of applied knowledge.
The FIA representative expressed gratitude for the warm reception and willingness to cooperate, noting that in recent years Armenia has developed professional potential in motorsport and has made notable progress in organizational capacities. Presenting the “Affordable Cross Car” project, it was noted that FIA has developed design solutions that enables on-site production.
The project aims to create an environment that allows entry into motorsport with minimal financial investment, relying on local production and limited resources. Armenia has become the last country to join the FIA's mentioned project. The International Federation's consultant spent approximately 10 days in Armenia, assessing the high professional capabilities of the team formed in Armenia. In just a few months, local specialists have established local production and formed a small but comprehensive ecosystem, earning positive feedback from international experts.
The meeting also addressed the FIA scholarship program, which is implemented at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom for students majoring in motorsport mechatronics.
ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan proposed considering the opportunities for cooperation with the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, including student engagement, the implementation of exchange programs, and the development of joint scientific and educational projects.
Concluding the meeting, Minister Zhanna Andreasyan reiterated the RA Government’s willingness to further advance cooperation and, through joint efforts, promote the development of motorsport in Armenia as a key avenue for promoting educational, technological, and youth potential.
