RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan participated in the "EducAItion 2026" ministerial conference in Israel, which is dedicated to developing personalized education policies in the era of artificial intelligence.
The Minister delivered a speech, emphasizing that artificial intelligence is not only transforming approaches to education, but is also becoming a key factor in the development of science, economy, and innovation. According to her, Armenia is actively following the global process of integrating AI tools into the education system, whilst also developing its own experience in this sphere.
Zhanna Andreasyan noted that Armenia is one of the few countries where pilot programs for AI courses have already been introduced in schools. She highlighted the Generation AI education program in high schools, STEP.AI, as well as the “AI Generation” multi-level educational initiative, which aims to train specialists in the AI field, from school to postgraduate education.
“These initiatives already encompass dozens of schools across all regions of Armenia: the program includes hundreds of teachers and over 600 pupils. Over the years, participants in the program have not only strengthened their mathematical and programming skills but have also developed AI literacy, critical thinking, teamwork, and innovative problem-solving abilities. Currently, the programs remain pilot projects, implemented through close cooperation between the state and leading IT organizations, which reflects mutual trust and a shared commitment to introducing learners to AI tools from an early stage,” Zhanna Andreasyan noted.
According to the ESCS Minister, educational programs of Armenian universities focus on delivering in-depth knowledge in fields related to artificial intelligence.
The speech also touched upon international technology events, particularly WCIT 2024, which was held in Armenia for the second time, contributing to the country's positioning as a technological leader.
Zhanna Andreasyan also presented the activities of the TUMO Centre for Creative Technologies in launching an educational program on generative artificial intelligence, noting that it will contribute to the development of comprehensive AI literacy among young people.
“In Armenia, these initiatives are not simply educational reforms: they are the cornerstones of our education system. Geopolitical realities and the limited availability of natural resources compel us to make the most of an infinite resource: the human mind. For us, AI is the key to equal opportunities, enabling us to go beyond the boundaries of traditional economies. We are confident that the new AI generation will transform the economy and contribute to the efficient implementation of digital transformation policies in Armenia. It is our responsibility to prepare learners not only for the demands of today but also for the skills of tomorrow, ensuring they become creators of change rather than mere followers,” Zhanna Andreasyan said.
In conclusion, the ESCS Minister emphasized that by the end of the decade, AI educational modules are planned to be introduced in more than 80 per cent of schools in Armenia, and that graduates of the education system should become not consumers of artificial intelligence, but its creators.
The delegation led by the ESCS Minister also includes Arman Andrikyan, the Adviser to the Minister.
