RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received today Director of Bilateral Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Uldis Mikuts, and Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the RA (residence in Tbilisi) Edite Medne. ESCS Deputy Minister Arthur Martirosyan participated in the meeting.
Welcoming the delegation, the Minister highly appreciated the friendly relations established between Armenia and Latvia and emphasized that there is potential for expanding cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, sports, and youth. Zhanna Andriasyan emphasized the resumption of the Intergovernmental Commission's activities on economic, industrial, scientific, and technical cooperation between the two countries, noting that on the Armenian side, the Commission is chaired by the ESCS Ministry. The parties discussed the agenda and organizational issues of the session planned for 2026 in Yerevan.
Ambassador Edite Medne expressed her gratitude for the reception, highlighting the importance of the continuity of productive bilateral cooperation. Representative of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uldis Mikutsi, highly appreciated the reforms implemented by the RA Government and its efforts to strengthen cooperation with the EU, expressing willingness to continue expert assistance.
The ESCS Minister expressed gratitude for the cooperation, specifically highlighting the expert support provided during the drafting of the Law "On Youth Policy", and emphasized that studying the Latvian experience has been very useful. In the context of advancing cooperation in the field of youth, the possibility of organizing an Armenia-Latvia youth forum was discussed.
In regard to cultural cooperation, Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the significance of inter-museum cooperation, suggesting to consider organizing joint exhibitions with the History Museum of Armenia or the National Gallery of Armenia and a leading Latvian museum. Taking into account the potential of Latvian filmmakers for implementing joint film projects within the EU, the ESCS Minister proposed considering opportunities for joint film production and experience exchange in the film industry.
Emphasizing the advancement of cooperation in the field of education, the parties highlighted the opportunities offered by the "Erasmus+" programs, within which higher education institutions of the Republic of Armenia cooperate with several institutions of the Republic of Latvia. In this context, the ESCS Minister addressed the ongoing reforms in higher education and science, as well as the "Academic City" program. Other issues of bilateral interest were also addressed during the meeting, including digital, formal, and informal lifelong learning and others.
