As part of the “Media Literacy Week” initiative, the event “Media Education in Preschool Pedagogy” was held at Kh. Abovyan Armenian State Pedagogical University. ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan and Acting Rector of the University Lilit Mkrtchyan attended the event.

Welcoming the attendees, Minister Zhanna Andreasyan highlighted the significance of the Pedagogical University’s initiative in joining the “Media Literacy Week” event in terms of preparing personnel with corresponding capacities and skills and transferring the knowledge and experience of future teachers to students: “In the substantive reforms of the sector, media literacy is stressed as a key competency and is included in the standards of both general and preschool education. It is vital to define the issues correctly and, using the necessary pedagogical approaches, demonstrate learning opportunities and ways to acquire necessary knowledge, also for preschool children.

In selecting the toolkit, she emphasized combining local and international experience, since the challenges are common to the educational systems of various countries around the world: “I am glad that the Pedagogical University is moving forward with piloting theoretical pedagogical approaches in basic educational institutions. We need methodologically structured work, starting from preschool education, to ensure that children's developmental abilities are progressing in the right direction. As the authorized education body, we anticipate receiving proposals following tests on implementing various tools in preschool institutions.”

Acting Rector Lilit Mkrtchyan also delivered a welcoming address, emphasizing that within the framework of Media Literacy Week, the University has brought together stakeholders from the education sector, ranging from preschool representatives to university students and lecturers.

As part of the event, there was also an exhibition of didactic materials created by students of the Faculty of Preschool Education and Methodology, and videos featuring various types of media content were presented.
