RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received the delegation led by Georgian Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze, who arrived in Armenia to participate in the “Academic City Armenia” International Knowledge Forum.

ESCS Deputy Minister Arthur Martirosyan also attended the meeting.

Minister Zhanna Andreasyan welcomed her counterpart, emphasising the importance of friendly cooperation between Armenia and Georgia in developing and expanding opportunities for implementing joint programs in the fields of education, science, and youth.

Thankful for the reception, Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia Givi Mikanadze expressed confidence that the meeting would pave the way for new opportunities for cooperation.

Zhanna Andreasyan noted that the education sector in Armenia is currently undergoing active reforms, highlighting the importance of experience exchange in the development of general education standards and curricula, the preparation of educational materials, capacity building for teachers, and advancement in higher education and science.

The sides discussed issues concerning the provision of Armenian language and literature textbooks to Armenian-speaking schools in Georgia, and the teaching of Georgian as a foreign language in Armenian schools. Emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation in higher education and science, particularly in the scope of the EU Erasmus+ program. The parties touched upon the policy and ongoing activities on the advancement of technological education, stressing that this is a priority in both countries. In this context, the process of establishing “Tumo” centres and “Armath” laboratories in Armenia and Georgia was emphasized as an important step in promoting the sector.

The parties also discussed holding youth conferences in Georgia and Armenia, highlighting the significance of such initiatives in fostering dialogue and cooperation between the youth of the two countries, as well as implementing new initiatives and strengthening friendly ties. At this point, the ESCS Minister presented Armenia's experience in establishing youth centres, while also emphasizing the significance of state programs aimed at discovering and developing the potential of young people.

During the meeting, the parties addressed various other issues of bilateral interest.
