The “Teach for Armenia” Educational Foundation Week is being held in Yerevan and the regions from July 14 to 18, dedicated to celebrating the Foundation’s 10-year journey and achievements. This five-day gathering aims to bring together teacher leaders, students, colleagues, and supporters.
RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan participated as a speaker at the event held today within the framework of the week. Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports Sisak Gabrielyan, ambassadors, education experts, and teachers also attended the event.
ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan welcomed the attendees and congratulated the “Teach for Armenia” members on the 10th anniversary of its founding, highlighting the effective work with the Organization and important program initiatives aimed at transforming the education system: “A person is the main beneficiary of all programs in the field of education. This approach is also at the core of the activities of “Teach for Armenia”, serving as the main idea around which targeted programs are generally developed.”
The Minister emphasized that the Foundation's work is very noticeable in schools where teachers, sent by the Foundation, work, citing as an example the meeting with students in the schools of Alaverdi after the flood in the city: “Depending on how we work with children, their abilities and situational response skills change significantly. In the school where I observed the Foundation's initial activities, children shared their emotions in groups, offered support to one another, and were able to figure out solutions. This is a tangible result: when we talk about plans, it's important that they are reflected not only in numbers, but also in real, meaningful impact”.
Zhanna Andreasyan also touched upon the “Seroond” program, implemented in cooperation with the ESCS Ministry and the “Teach for Armenia” Educational Foundation, which aims to enhance socio-psychological work in schools: “Considering the results and positive feedback, the “Seroond” program, which aims to transform the school's socio-psychological environment, can be expanded. In the field of education, improving the academic environment by itself cannot provide the desired outcomes unless we simultaneously provide a safe environment where children learn with love and feel good. I think the “Seroond” program is about improving the environment.”
In the context of ensuring access to education, Zhanna Andreasyan particularly emphasized the importance of the program of sending teachers to rural settlements, aimed at fostering socio-psychological and collaborative environments in schools.
As emphasized by Zhanna Andreasyan, the consistent implementation of substantive reforms in the general education sector during the pandemic and post-war period was made possible only through joint efforts and strong partnerships. “Working with the state and supporting the development of state policy also requires institutional sensitivity and awareness of the state interest, which we always see in our partnership. I am confident that this strong partnership will drive us forward and lead to new achievements, especially in advancing and delivering high-quality education for our children,” said the Minister and expressed gratitude for the efficient collaboration.
Welcoming remarks were also delivered at the event by Chairman of the Board of Trustees of “Teach for Armenia” Sam Simonian, and Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation Larisa Hovhannisyan.
ESCS Deputy Minister Arthur Martirosyan is also present at the events dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the “Teach for Armenia” Educational Foundation.
