The delegation headed by the RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan is on an official visit to the Republic of Estonia.
As part of the visit, the Armenian delegation participated in an exhibition dedicated to Khachatur Abovyan at the University of Tartu Museum, organized in collaboration with Khachatur Abovyan House-Museum. The exhibition featured a handwritten sharaknots (collection of hymns) dated to the 13th century, donated by Khachatur Abovyan from the library of the University of Tartu, with his inscription: “Armenian church songs written in 1289. A gift to the Imperial Library of Dorpat from the Armenian deacon Khachatur Abovyan, March 5, 1831, Dorpat.” This is the only book preserved from Abovyan's personal library.
During the visit, issues of further cooperation between the two museums were addressed. The Minister also presented the activities of the Matenadaran to his Estonian colleagues, during which she touched upon potential collaboration between the two institutions.
Next, ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan had a meeting with Vice Rector for Research at the University of Tartu, Mari Moora. The Minister presented the reforms implemented in the fields of education and science of the Republic of Armenia, specifically the “Academic City” program. In this context, the potential for collaboration within the framework of the latter was discussed. The parties touched upon international cooperation, implementation of joint programs, funding mechanisms, and other topics. The Minister also met with university students who were interested in international cooperation topics.
The delegation headed by Minister Zhanna Andreasyan also met with the Mayor of Tartu Urmas Klaas. “We are impressed by the visit to the University of Tartu and the exhibition dedicated to the renowned Armenian intellectual and writer Khachatur Abovyan. This is one of the best examples of mutual recognition of our peoples and the strengthening of cultural ties. I am confident that this visit will contribute to the implementation of new programs in various fields and the development of cooperation prospects,” noted ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan. The meeting covered the topic of academic city infrastructure, based on the example of Tartu, as well as the engagement of the youth in the context of community management.
The delegation also visited the Estonian National Museum, viewing the “Encounters” exhibition, dedicated to the daily life and cultural heritage of Estonians, and the “Echo of the Urals” exhibition, providing insight into the life of Finno-Ugric people. The representatives of the Estonian National Museum presented the specifics of the museum's economic activities, as well as the tools that help both to continuously develop its operations and to increase financial self-sufficiency.
