The 60th European Senior Karate Championship is coming to an end at K. Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex. The championship is held with the support of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports in cooperation with the Karate Federation of Armenia and international partners.
ESCS Minister Zhanna Andreasyan and Deputy Minister Hasmik Avagyan, President of the World and European Karate Federation Antonio Espinos, and President of the Armenian Karate Federation Vazgen Harutyunyan watched the final bouts of the European Championship and awarded the winners.
The Armenian representatives claimed two bronze medals at the European Senior Championship today. Gor Nersisyan (-85 kg) and Yura Zalyan (-60 kg) of the male kumite division stood on the third step of the podium.
“I’ve experienced incredible emotions that cannot be described in words. I came to this championship for gold: unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the finals, but I gave my best in this fight to secure the bronze medal. Last year, I won a gold medal at the European U21 Championship, which again became the first in the history of karate in Armenia. I am pleased to have won the first medal for Armenia in the senior division at the European Championship,” Gor Nersisyan said.
Around 1,000 athletes from 54 countries are participating in the 60th European Senior Karate Championship.
