RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan participated today in the opening event of the “Health Professions Educators” (HPE) program.
At the event, the concept of Health Professions Education (HPE) and the new Master of Science program (MSHPE) were introduced, implemented in collaboration with the ESCS and Health Ministries, Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University and the Academician S. Avdalbekyan National Institute of Health in cooperation with the “HENAR” Foundation and Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCASM).
The program aims to advance reforms that foster skills-based medical education through the integration of national and international experience.
Welcoming the attendees, the ESCS Minister underlined the significance of the program aimed at advancing the quality and systemic reform of medical education.
“In the context of ongoing reforms in the fields of higher education and science in the Republic of Armenia, increasing university competitiveness is a primary target,” said Zhanna Andreasyan, emphasizing that medical educational programs in the higher education system are the most appealing among both local and foreign students.
According to Zhanna Andreasyan, prioritizing education quality is crucial for achieving the Education Strategy's goal of doubling foreign student enrollment: “The issues of the education system cannot be solved without cooperation, international ties, and experience exchange. The way to solve the issues is to study that experience and learn from each other, adapting it to local requirements and applying it as needed. This is the only way we can quickly respond to the challenges facing our country and move forward,” stated the Minister, emphasizing that she is considering the new medical professional development program in this context.
Zhanna Andreasyan also highlighted the program's collaborative nature, both internationally and within local structures, particularly in the context of an academic city.
RA Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan, Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee Sargis Hayotsyan, Co–founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “HENAR” Foundation Arman Voskerchyan, Director of Medical Cooperation Boston University-Armenia Dr. Aram Kaligyan and others also attended the event.
The event will serve as an open platform for discussions and presentations on postgraduate medical education, highlighting the significance of curriculum development in the context of reforms.
During the event, a discussion was held on the development of educational programs in Armenia, with a focus on the significance of reflecting the priorities outlined in sectoral strategies and inter-sectoral cooperation. It was underlined that such educational initiatives are vital in terms of developing human resources in the healthcare sector.
The two-day event will conclude with practical training focused on the specifics of HPE teaching and methodology.
