RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received YSU students who have been granted the right to participate in the finals of the ICPC 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics.
Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee Sargis Hayotsyan, YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, YSU teams coach, and Associate Professor at the Chair of Programming and Information Technologies Armen Andreasyan attended the meeting.
Welcoming the students, the ESCS Minister congratulated them on their impressive achievements, emphasizing that the results achieved were rather encouraging.
“We are encouraged by the achievements of YSU students, which also fosters new aspirations,” noted Zhanna Andreasyan emphasizing that enhancing the competitiveness of higher education stands as a key priority for the state.
Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the significance of YSU's engagement in the esteemed international Olympiad, while also noting Armenia's application to host the ICPC World Student Programming Olympiad.
More than 300 teams participated in the main competition for participation in the final stage of the “ICPC” 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics. The Northern Eurasia Regional Contest (NERC) final, was held on December 15 simultaneously in four cities: St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Astana, and Tbilisi. The “Yerevan SU: Good Knight” YSU team, consisting of Samvel Andreasyan, Robert Kocharyan and Hamlet Petrosyan, took part in the Olympiad in Tbilisi. Taking 20th place in the overall standings, the YSU team won the right to participate in the ICPC 2025 Finals, becoming the only one in the South Caucasus. The YSU team will participate in the finals of this prestigious international competition for the fifth time, marking a notable achievement as compared to the universities of the region.
YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan noted during the meeting, that there was a rather tough competition among the world's top universities and their students. The YSU students also shared their impressions and interesting experiences.
A reference was made to the organization of the ICPC 2025 finals' preparatory stage, including meetings and camps.
In this context, the Minister informed that the state is funding school Olympic clubs starting this year, and highlighted the significance of the generation change process and the inclusion of new students in the teams.
The ESCS Minister also introduced programs for young scientists, international scientific trips and mobility, as well as the state policy of funding science in Armenia.
