RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received today Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to Armenia Christos Sofianopoulos.

ESCS Deputy Minister Arthur Martirosyan also attended the meeting.

Minister Zhanna Andreasyan welcomed the Ambassador, highlighting the longstanding warm and friendly relations between Armenia and Greece.

Highlighting the significance of cooperation between Armenia and Greece in education, science, culture, sports, and youth, the Minister emphasized the potential for broader collaboration.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to Armenia Christos Sofianopoulos thanked for the reception and expressed his commitment in making efforts to strengthen relations.

During the meeting, the parties discussed other topics related to the development of cultural tourism, collaborative initiatives on international platforms and expansion of cooperation.

Regarding collaboration in the field of education, the parties underscored the importance of fostering interuniversity ties and emphasized joint educational and research programs, as well as exchange programs for teachers and students. In this context, the special significance of the activities of Yerevan State Armenian-Greek College of Tourism, Service and Food Industry was highlighted, with which the Embassy of Greece has successfully been collaborating for many years.

Touching upon cultural affairs, Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized that issues pertaining to the preservation and protection of cultural heritage, including the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of other peoples in Armenia and the restoration of monuments, are part of the key policy of the state. In this context, the parties touched upon the Greek church of Ayios Georgios in the community of Hankavan in Kotayk region, which is one of the clearest shreds of evidence of Greek traces in Armenia.

Another key area for collaboration, as Minister Zhanna Andreasyan highlighted, is the museum sector. In particular, the possibility of organizing joint exhibitions at the History Museum of Armenia and prospects for cooperation with the Matenadaran were discussed.
