RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan received today the delegation of the “Global Campaign for Education” organization headed by Global Coordinator Grant Kasowanjete.
ESCS Deputy Minister Arthur Martirosyan also attended the meeting.
Greeting the guests, Zhanna Andreasyan noted that the Armenian education system is undergoing significant reforms, and many programs are being implemented in this direction in collaboration with international partners. According to her, the “RA Education Development State Program until 2030”, as well as action plans, focus on organizing equally accessible and high-quality education.
Introducing the education reforms, the Minister pointed out that starting from the 2021-2022 academic year the new state standard of general education was piloted in schools of Tavush region, and is now gradually implemented across all schools in the Republic. Touching upon the issue of improving the education content in Armenia, the Minister noted that, based on the independent assessment report conducted by the World Bank, a 6-month increase in the dynamics of education has been recorded among the students studying with the new standard over two years.
The ESCS Minister also emphasized the initiative to export Armenian educational services, highlighting the programs of “Tumo”, COAF Smart Centers, and “Armat” laboratories. During the meeting, Zhanna Andreasyan also presented the reforms of secondary and primary vocational, as well as higher education, and the “Academic City” program.
Head of the delegation of the “Global Campaign for Education” organization Grant Kasowanjete thanked for the reception and noted that Armenia is one of the important and active members of the organization. Grant Kasowanjete emphasized that their primary objective is to ensure access to quality education for everyone, regardless of social, economic or geographical conditions. The active role of civil society in education reforms was also highlighted at the meeting.
In this regard, the ESCS Minister pointed out that significant sectoral strategic documents and projects are being discussed with civil society, ensuring a participatory process. There are also civil and student councils under the ESCS Minister, and meetings are regularly convened to discuss significant legislative drafts and reforms.
With members from around 120 states across all regions (including the Republic of Armenia since 2003) and international organizations, the “Global Campaign for Education” is one of the largest organizations representing civil society in the field of education. The organization was founded in 1999 and is considered one of the largest international networks for the protection of education rights.
